Time for SMEs to Shine Online

Go On UK

It’s almost a year since consultants Booz & Company reported that “only one third of small and medium-sized companies in the UK have a digital presence and only 14% sell their products and services online, missing out on the potential for billions of pounds more revenue”.  The recovery is in the hands of small business, said the Galia Digital blog at the time. It was a shocking statistic – but the truth is that a year on, very little has changed.  How do we unlock this amazing online potential?

Tomorrow sees the launch of the Go-On NorthEast campaign to get people and businesses online : 26 Weeks to make a Difference.  Led by Baroness Martha Lane Fox, and supported by a wide range of influential partners, this is our chance to kickstart the economy from the comfort of our own homes and offices.  Read the Journal’s recent interview here.

So why should your business make the effort to be online?  The latest statistics from the Office of National Statistics make a strong case – you need to be online because your customers are there.  The majority of people in all age groups – apart from the over 75s – are online.  And over the past two years, the numbers online have grown in all age groups, most noticeably the over 55, 65 and 75s.

So don’t be shy – take the plunge to bring your business online.  Your customers are waiting – and you could make a difference to the future of the country!
